Just odds and ends that we had to post.

12-24-2022: Our at-home Christmas. Making gingerbread loaves and the result, Shadow gets a new Ducky, Ondine and Barbara, and all of us.

12-23-2022: John at work.

12-17-2022: Happy Belated Thanksgiving! Here we are around the table, starting with Leo at the far left, then Ondine, Barbara, Bea, Danielle, Roy, and Jeff. Then, another one with caps that Ondine crocheted for everyone! After everyone left, Leo stayed up into the early hours dismantling Roy's old laptop to see if it could be repaired.

12-16-2022: Helping Leo move in L.A. The first shots shows Leo grabbing a few last-minute items from his shared housing/pod digs and the back of John's car; the next ones show the apartment he's sharing with a friend. No furniture, but the production equipment is set up. Priorities!

12-12-2022: Holiday card preview.

11-28-2022: A morning walk with Shadow.

11-12-2022: A morning hike and then lunch with Baba. We took Shadow on a walk up the mountain, then took Barbara to lunch at Marieta's, where Roy and Danielle joined us.

08-27-2022: A trip to visit Grammy! Here is Leo in front of his semi-pod sleeping quarters in his new co-living space in L.A. Then, two photos in Grammy's studio apartment at Arcadia Living - in the second one, Leo is making bunny ears behind Roy, who is standing on tiptoes to appear much taller than Leo. Brothers. Then, a group shot at Kabuki with John's sister Elaine.

07-29-2022: Square. Sometimes John gets to dig very square holes, then auger holes in the bottom of the holes to explore even further into the dirt.

07-29-2022: John's Archaeology Certificate from City College came. "With Highest Honors," thank you very much.

07-23-2022: We went to another party! This is us being very social with a bunch of John's archaeofriends from school and work. We're at Hillcrest Brewing Company celebrating Sam's birthday. Clockwise from the lower left, that's Ryan, Jenn, Sam, Sonia, Albert, John, Ondine, and Diana.

07-16 to 07-17-2022: Leo moves back to L.A.! Here he is by the new school building, much expanded and updated with new state-of-the-art facilities. And, that's his digs, a co-living space in a converted church on S. Flower in downtown L.A. The last shot is us at breakfast (breakfast tacos, mmmm!) Sunday morning.

07-09-2022: Roy's actual college degree arrived, and we went to a retirement party! Here's Roy with his B.S. Business, Summa Cum Laude, from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs! And, Ondine with a crew of former co-workers at Silverado Hospice, gathered in her former director's back yard to celebrate Rev. Frank's retirement!

06-27-2022: John's work face. At least, we assume that's John, on a job site somewhere in San Diego or Riverside.

06-26-2022: All of us at Denny's. We take Barbara to lunch at Denny's almost every weekend, she likes the familiarity of it. This is also the last photo of all of us for a while, because Leo moved back to L.A. shortly afterwards.

06-25-2022: We tried a new restaurant! Leo's friend works at this upscale Italian restaurant near Scripps Ranch, so we tried it out. It was excellent!

06-17-2022: Earth, Wind & Fire and Santana in concert! Here we are at the North Island Credit Union Amphitheater in Chula Vista listening to some classic rock/fusion!

06-10-2022: John visits his Mom. Here we are at Kabuki in Arcadia, a favorite place to have lunch.

04-23-2022: More birthday fun! Bea joined us for a delicious lunch at Tip Top to celebrate Barbara's and Ondine's birthdays. Then we spent some time walking around the San Diego Botanical Garden!

04-19-2022: Barbara's 80th birthday! She chose to go to Denny's for dinner, always good food.

04-18-2022: New dog door! Shadow had a life-changing event; now he can go in and out on his own. It took him just a day to learn how. You can teach an old dog new tricks!

04-17-2022: The Easter Bunny came! Here's Leo with some of his loot. The Easter Bunny also delivered to Roy in Colorado Springs.

04-16-2022: Easter gathering! We got together at Nancy and Jay's for Easter Saturday. Aunty Grace and Uncle Mike were there, making four generations in attendance, with all the clans represented. Justin brought copies of a scroll Hope found in Aunty Merry's things, it's their maternal family line going back to 1200.

03-29-2022: Takumi sauce. When Roy was in high school and taking Japanese, we had a Japanese exchange student stay with us. His name was Takumi. He brought some food ingredients over from Japan to cook some meals for us. One item was a double-fermented super-deluxe soy sauce. It's really good. We found the product at Mitsuwa, and called it "Takumi sauce" because we have no idea what it's actually called because we can't read the package. We've been calling it Takumi sauce for years now. Then this ad happened! They are always listening ...

03-28-2022: At-work selfie. Head protection, eye protection, hearing protection, sun protection, UV protection, wind protection, dust protection, and lots and lots of hi-viz.

03-01-2022: John's first project with a new company. He found some cool cultural stuff, and these gopher bones. Fun!

02-26-2022: Snow in Anza-Borrego Desert State Park! Also, some of the ground stone objects from the museum's collection John was able to work with as part of a class lab.

02-21-2022: John's lunch with his Mom at Kabuki in Los Angeles.

02-19-2022: Kaffeetrinken brunch mit Barbara and Leo at Denny's.

02-02-2022: Date Night to see Beyond Van Gogh in Del Mar! Amazing show, absolutely mesmerizing!

02-01-2022: Year of the Tiger! John was born the Year of the Tiger, so this is his year! And, his tiger, sent from Japan when he was born.

01-31-2022: Back to school. John is taking Artifact Analysis, the last class he needs to complete his Certificate in Archaeology from City College. It's a lab-heavy class, but due to COVID-19, the college has moved all in-person classes to Zoom for the first three weeks.

01-27-2022: Archaeologist at work. Sometimes John gets a company vehicle to use when 4wd and high ground clearance is required. These are shells from the shoreline of ancient Lake Cahuilla, which once covered over 2,200 square miles of the inland valley east of San Diego. Also, evidence of human habitation in some prehistoric pot sherds.

01-23-2022: A walk around Lake Murray. You can tell John is an archaeologist because he took pictures of broken glass and pipe (Pacific Clay Products!), shells, and coins. But we also saw an osprey and a packrack den!

01-22-2022: Used book haul! This is just the books John got from Book Place on Lake Murray Blvd. (Ondine got others.)

01-15-2022 (and a bonus 01-16): Roy leaves, Leo cooks. Early Saturday morning, Roy left on a three-day drive to Colorado Springs. Leo made smoothies for breakfast and gyoza from scratch to go in a miso-ginger-kale soup the next day (last photo). (Update: Roy arrived safe and sound at UCCS Monday afternoon.)

01-09-2022: Ozoni and osechi. Just two photos of our streamlined Japanese New Year's morning feast.

01-08-2022: Making makizushi for the Japanese New Year's Day feast. Leo took charge of making the chicken teriyaki, and we all made makizushi. Roy missed out on rolling because he was out with friends.

01-02-2022: An Unexpected Journey. John and Leo went to L.A. to retrieve all of Leo's stuff, since it looks like his shared housing situation has fallen apart. The place was without water or electricity, and was looking pretty derelict, a far cry from when we toured it when he moved in less than six months ago.

01-01-2022: Happy New Year! We had our usual German New Yera's Eve feast, and had leftovers for breakfast while watching the Rose Parade on KTLA. Then we had a rousing game of Monopoly (John is already out at this point), and took a hike. John, ever the scavenger/archaeologist, found a nice prehistoric flake core, which he left where he found it after taking pictures.

12-25-2021: Christmas day walk! We were staying at John's sister's house in Pasadena, and went for a nice long walk in the canyon.

12-23-2021: Holiday card selfies! Our holiday card concept was going to be selfies, because of distance and timing. But we ran out of time.
